A poor shoemaker and his wife are visited by elves who magically make beautiful shoes for him to sell. They become prosperous and seek the elves out in the forest in order to thank them.

When they are left in the woods by their parents, two children find their way home despite an encounter with a wicked witch.

When the greedy townspeople try and steal it away, they are stuck together and Simon flees followed by this stream of fools into the King's dining hall where the sight of the chaos makes the bereaved Princess Eliza laugh again.
